South Indian Fantasy
I am heavily inspired by the South indian fashion, folklore and culture I grew up with, often reimagining and playing with what they could like with a fantasy or anime twist.
Daughters of Durga: South Indian Magical Girls

Concepts for a magical girl series idea I had where three girls are given powers by Parvati/Durga that allow them to transform into cute outfits and gain magical weapons that they can use to slay Rakshasa. I've combined the frills, bows and poofy skirts from magical girl outfits and Japanese lolita fashion with the silks, jewellery and jasmine garlands that makeup a pattu pavadai a young girl would wear. Magical girl outfits are a celebration of girlhood and fashion, which is why I incorporated the pretty details of traditional south indian clothing that remind me of my childhood.
Pretty women in saris

While I may not be able to properly tie my own Sari without a Youtube tutorial, I can draw beautiful women in meticulous draped saris to compensate. I love saris (as evidenced by how I probably own too many given Canberra's usually gloomy weather), I am fascinated by their bright colours, shifting weaves, bold borders and the many ways that can be draped. I like to explore the variety that saris can come in through my art from pre-colonial draping styles to different sari styles across states. And of course, I always make sure to give my fashionable ladies copious amount of jewellery and jasmine garlands.
Hindu mythology inspired Epic

As a Hindu, I have always loved the stories and gods I grew up. Stories that explored the messiness humanity with fallible gods capable of making the same mistakes as humans and humans with the best of intentions who still managed to cause harm at the end of the day. Most of all, I loved Epics like the Mahabharata, stories that spanned across generations where every small decision, curse and boon culminates in an epic war where nobody is truly ever the victor.
Of course as a pre-teen who watched too much anime, I have always had the idea of making my own epic like series but as a battle adventure anime. This is a mock-up of what said protagonist of a hypothetical series would like - she is tiny but stubborn and uses her giant mace to beat her enemies to a pulp. What can I say, as much as I love the moral greyness and introspective musings of Hindu epics, I also love how some of the characters have awesome powers and super cool powerful weapons.
